Brief Update
During the 2026 Florida Legislative Session, several attempts have been made to introduce language reminiscent of the “Can’t Call Yourself Doctor or Physician,” also known as the “Naming Bill.” FOA has been diligent in monitoring all proposed legislation that contains any fragment of the original bill. Recognizing that this session will likely be extended beyond the 9-week period, we will remain aware that additional attempts could be made to move “Naming Bill” legislation forward at the last minute. FOA asks its members to stay fully engaged with us throughout this process. If called to action, please remember to stay alert, focused, and maintain a positive demeanor when engaging with your key legislative contacts. Recognizing that our friends in the legislative arena are working hard to address significant issues impacting the State of Florida, please remain on the high road with all communications and personal contacts—especially in any emails or online communications. FOA appreciates your continued patience and support as we work through multiple political challenges as they unfold. In closing, please support our FOA Executive Director, Sarah Langley, and our FOA PAC Chair, Dr. Michelle Levin, in raising awareness, increasing membership, and encouraging contributions. An in-depth and candid discussion of all events occurring at the federal, state, and local levels will be presented during the Legislative Lunch at our upcoming 2026 FOA Annual Convention. Until then, please stand by. Sincerely, Kenneth Wayne Lawson, OD FOA Legislative Chair
