President's Report [Q4 2024]
Tuesday, December 31, 2024

As we approach the close of another year, the Florida Optometric Association (FOA) finds itself in a quieter season—one that allows us to reflect on the successes of the past year and prepare for the challenges ahead. While these months may feel slower on the surface, our commitment to advancing optometry in Florida and beyond remains steadfast.
Even during this time, the FOA continues its collaboration with the American Optometric Association (AOA) at the national level. Together, we work to address issues that impact our profession and our patients, ensuring optometry’s voice is heard on Capitol Hill. Simultaneously, we remain vigilant in monitoring state and local elections. These decisions will shape the legislative landscape we face in the coming year, and we are ready to engage with new and returning policymakers.
As the new year approaches, so too does Florida’s legislative session. This critical time requires a united effort from our members, volunteers, and leadership to advocate for the issues that impact our profession and the health of our patients. From protecting our profession to protecting the doctor-patient relationship, your FOA Board is actively preparing to represent optometry’s interests with a clear, strong voice.
This season of reflection is also a time to express gratitude. To our dedicated volunteers: thank you for your time, energy, and passion. Your work ensures that our association continues to thrive. To everyone who has contributed to the Optometry PAC: your generosity empowers us to fight for policies that protect and promote optometry in Florida.
As we gear up for the work that lies ahead, I encourage each of you to take time to reflect on the past year. Celebrate the wins, learn from the challenges, and, most importantly, enjoy this season with your family and friends. Whether you’re gathered around a table or taking a much-needed break, let this joyous time renew your spirit for the year ahead.
Thank you for being an integral part of the FOA family. Together, we continue to strengthen our profession and improve the lives of our patients. Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season!
Warm regards, Steven L. Silverstone, O.D. President, Florida Optometric Association
