MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD ON REGULATORY BURDEN OF CONTACT LENS RULE AND EYEGLASS RULE

AOA has been in discussion with the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy regarding the burden of the signed acknowledgment requirements related to the eyeglass rule and contact lens rule.  We are asking doctors to weigh in with SBA regarding the burden of these rules.

When submitting comments, emphasize:

• Specific estimated summary amount of time (total minutes or seconds) you and your staff need to complete the process.
• Total time can include explaining the signature requirement; answering questions or refusals to sign; printing or creating signature pages; scanning and naming signature pages into the patient record; ensuring you have secured the acknowledgment for 3 years; etc.
• Indicate how much time, if any, THE DOCTOR has to spend in the process, whether answer patient questions about the requirement, refusals to sign, etc.

Additional talking points:

• The FTC's existing requirement to provide patients with their prescriptions already protects consumer choice.
• The additional signed acknowledgment requirement simply creates red tape without improving patient outcomes.
• Prescription portability is not the issue—unnecessary paperwork is.
