An homage to my friend, Dr. Ron Foreman

An homage to my friend, Dr. Ron Foreman Few people are born champions. For most, despite our best work and well-intended honorable deeds we never truly rise to the level of “Champion.” It is my opinion that Dr. Ron Foreman was born a champion of Optometry. In my years of serving as the Legislative Chair for the Florida Optometric Association, I have been proud to serve alongside dozens of advocates and optometric champions, but few of us have risen to Ron’s level of passion and perseverance in defending and promoting our profession. Ron lived, ate, and breathed Florida Optometry. He saw it through the worst of times and the best of times and never flinched or faltered to defend and promote it despite overwhelming odds and uncertainty.
Ron would lay awake at night and through a combination of worry and deliberation deliver us to where we all stand today. He did everything to defend and promote our profession- at times through the expense of his personal and family time. In 2007 Ron took me under his wing to serve beside him as legislative co-chair. He tutored and mentored me to eventually accept his position as FOA Legislative Chair. For his decades of passion and service I hereby designate him as a “Born Champion of Optometry” and I thank his wife Sandra and his family for kindly sharing his life with all of us. Godspeed Ron.
In humble remembrance, Ken Lawson, O.D.
