Staff certification renewal is Oct. 31—are they on track?

Ensure your practice’s certified paraoptometrics don’t lose their valuable CPO, CPOA or CPOT certifications as the 2025 renewal deadline approaches on Oct. 31.

To maintain a CPO, CPOA or CPOT certification, paraoptometrics must complete at least 18 hours of continuing education (CE) every three years before Oct. 31 of their renewal year. Here’s what you should know:

  1. CE requirements must be fulfilled by Oct. 31. At least 9 hours of CE must be approved by the CPC or AOA; the remaining 9 hours are acceptable from other approved organizations. All credits must be completed within the 3-year renewal period. AOA associate members can earn all required CE for free through AOA EyeLearn.

  2. Renewal forms are due by Oct. 31. Forms must include proof of CE credits and a $95 renewal fee. Use this form to submit your 2025 renewal; advanced renewals for subsequent years are not accepted.

  3. Late renewal forms are accepted through Dec. 31 for an additional fee. Should staff satisfy their CE requirements before Oct. 31, yet miss the renewal deadline, staff may submit their renewal form if accompanied by a late fee of $195.

Failure to meet all renewal requirements will result in loss of certification.
