The 2025 Florida Legislative session begins today, March 4th. This update will serve as our last briefing prior to a call to action to rally our efforts to pass HB 449 and work to defeat “The Optometrist Can’t Call Themselves a Doctor or Physician Bill.”
As a new development, in the last moments of bill filing the opticians filed HB 1323 and SB 1544. These bills would prohibit any lay person from performing any task in the scope of practice of an optician. We are aware of these bills and will let you know if any further action is needed from you.
For now, HB 449 should be heard in the second week of the session, and we will focus our efforts on passing it through its first committee of reference in the House.
