Awards Criteria

 


OPTOMETRIST OF THE YEAR

Must posses a current optometric license and be a member in good standing. They must be actively practicing optometry in Florida and be an active member of the FOA. They must be recommended to the Awards Committee, in writing, ninety days prior to the FOA annual convention. They must have provided no less than five years of exceptional service to the enhancement of vision care and the advancement of the profession.

 

EDWARD K. WALKER, O.D. AWARD - OPTOMETRIST OF THE DECADE AWARD

Must meet the "O.D. of the Year" criteria and have provided ten or more consecutive years of exceptional service to the enhancement of vision care and the advancement of the profession. They must have previously been Optometrist of the Year.

 

FRANK A. BROOME, SR., O.D. - LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Must be an active or retired member of the FOA and recommended to the Awards Committee, in writing, ninety days prior to the annual convention. They must have devoted most of their professional life to the enhancement of vision care and the advancement of the profession and receive a unanimous vote of approval from FOA Board of Trustees.

 

YOUNG OD OF THE YEAR AWARD

Must be an active Optometrist who has been in practice five (5) years or less, who has demonstrated a significant contribution to the FOA and the optometric profession.  The recipient must be a member in good standing of the FOA and in practice during the year in which the award is presented.  The FOA Board of Trustees & Officers are not eligible to receive this award during their term in office.

 

LAYPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD

They must NOT be an optometrist. Must have demonstrated dedication to the profession and provided exceptional service in enhancement of vision care and advancement of the profession in the preceding year. The nominee must be recommended to the Awards Committee by an FOA member and receive a majority vote of the Awards Committee.

 

PRIVATE OUTSTANDING LOCAL SOCIETY MEMBER AWARDtc  \l 1 "OUTSTANDING LOCAL SOCIETY MEMBER AWARD"

The award is presented to an individual in good standing who has contributed in any of the following ways: Been instrumental in planning, assisting and participating in Society programs, events and activities.  The nominee must have made significant contributions to the Local Society or to the FOA, the community, the state or the nation and brought special, positive recognition to optometry and state of the art eye care in Florida.
